J.J. Watt has agreed to a multi-year deal with CBS Sports to serve as an NFL studio analyst across all platforms, the network announced. The three-time NFL DPOY will make his first appearance on The “NFL Today” in Week 1. More from richarddeitsch.
One of the only sure things in sports television these days is the continued hiring of former NFL players and coaches. How will Watt be on CBS? Impossible to know until we see him over the first couple of weeks. But he has some things going for him, including great professional credentials and a history of candor in media appearances. The studio is a good place to get initial reps for a sports broadcaster because you are part of a collective as opposed to a much bigger lift as a game analyst.
He’s set to become the third member inducted into the Texans’ Ring of Honor, joining Robert C. McNair, the late owner of the Texans, and legendary receiver Andre Johnson. Watt played the first 10 seasons of his NFL career with the Texans, who selected him with the No. 11 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
