Crews continued repairing leaks in pipes after identifying 20 to 25 of them around the city, Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said, which won’t be lifted until all connections have sufficient water pressure and bacteria testing is conducted, the city said Friday. Meanwhile, the city continued distributing water to residents at several locations.

“We made every preparation possible to prevent this from happening but this has been an unprecedented event that has stressed every water system in some way,” the utility said in a statement posted onNorth of Birmingham, Ala., the Oneonta Utilities Board said it expected to resume water service to all areas by Friday night. “We are in the final stretch,” the utility said on its website.
