Local students will collect bottles of water from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at James Weldon Johnson Park to send to people in Jackson, Mississippi, who are dealing with the aftermath of another clean water crisis.

Cases of water rest on the back seat of Carey Wooten's car at a drive-thru water distribution site in Jackson, Miss., part of the community's efforts to deal with the city's longstanding water issues, Sept. 7, 2022. A boil-water advisory has been lifted for Mississippi's capital, and the state will stop handing out free bottled water on Saturday. But the crisis isn't over.

“If Jacksonville, Florida, ever goes through this, I would want someone to care enough to donate water for us,” said Gibson, a senior at Ribault High School. “Put yourself in their shoes. They cannot take showers. They cannot wash their hands.” Raines High School principal Vincent Hall is bringing several students from his school to help with the bottled water drive Sunday.
