Jai Hindley is just the second Australian rider to win one of cycling's Grand Tours after Cadel Evans and first to win the Giro d'Italia.
Jai Hindley has become the second Australian to win one of cycling's Grand Tours, claiming victory in this year's Giro d'Italia.
Hindley held off pre-race favourite Richard Carapaz on Sunday's 17.4km individual time trial around the streets of Verona to claim overall victory by one minute, 18 seconds. The 26-year-old carried a lead of one minute 25 seconds over his Ecuadorian rival heading into the final stage. Hindley is the first Australian to win the Giro in its 105th edition, bettering his own second-place finish from 2020."There were a lot of emotions out there today. His victory puts him alongside compatriot Cadel Evans, who made history when he won the 2011 edition of the Tour de France, as the only two Australians to have won a Grand Tour."It's really incredible man," Hindley said.
