In a bid to crackdown on the promotion of gambling, lottery and tobacco use, France introduced strict laws this week prohibiting influencers from misleading posts online. 9News

The move marks the first time such a protocol had been legally introduced in Europe.Influencers in France caught flouting the nation's strict new ad laws could now face time behind bars.

Under the new regulations, "actors of commercial influence" will not be able to advertise lottery or gambling on platforms that "do not have the capacity to prohibit minors." Those caught breaking the rules could face up to two years in prison or face fines in excess of €300,000 .The laws also bans the promotion of cosmetic surgeries, medical devices, some financial products and tobacco.
