Corman filed paperwork to have his name removed from the May 17 primary ballot.

Of that crowded field, Corman, of Centre County, had the longest tenure of service in an elective state office. He served in the state Senate since 1998 and ascended to the chamber’s top leadership post last year., Corman, 57, said he felt he was uniquely qualified for the post because of his understanding of the legislative process and knowing what it takes to work with the General Assembly to get things done.

“I decided I was going to run for governor to protect personal freedoms and help Pennsylvanians recover from the destructive lockdown policies made by Governor Wolf,” In deciding he would run for governor, Corman announced he would not seek re-election to the Senate seat that has been held by his father Doyle and himself for 45 years.
