A driver on his way to work has been identified as one of two men killed in Thursday’s multi-vehicle crash on Sydney ’s Harbour Bridge. Jamal Choukri, a 44-year-old Moroccan national, was travelling in a white Hyundai Accent when a blue Hyundai i30 hatchback driven by a 51-year-old man veered onto oncoming traffic. It set off a chain reaction that ended the lives of both drivers about 1.40pm. Choukri had been on his way to work, reportedly as a truck driver.
Independent Sydney MP Alex Greenwich called on the government to review safety on the bridge and consider installing a centre divider in the wake of the fatal collision. “I would hope that the government would seriously consider the need for a divider there,” he said.” “Before anything is done, a proper safety-risk assessment needs to occur to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
