The Ireland international is off-contract at the end of the season.
James Bentley's future is moving closer to a resolution - with an extended stay at Headingley growing in likelihood despite interest elsewhere. Ireland international Bentley has just over three months left on his existing deal at the club, leaving his future unclear.
Bentley appointed a new agent last month and he was offered out to rival clubs, which appeared to suggest his time at the Rhinos was coming to an end. However, talks are thought to have evolved with Leeds recently. Meanwhile, talks have broken down elsewhere which has increased the chances of him re-signing with Leeds.
Rugby League Live is aware of at least one Super League club that was interested in Bentley but stepped away from negotiations due to being too far apart on contract expectations, and it has been suggested another club found themselves in a similar position. One club that is reported to have shown interest is Catalans Dragons. Suspicions were raised when Bentley tagged himself in Perpignan on his Instagram page. However, it should be noted his new agent, Greg Keenan, is based in the city.
That said, Catalans are on the lookout for a back-rower at present, with Matt Whitley heading to St Helens next season. It has been suggested to Rugby League Live that Bentley does have an alternative option to Leeds but that the prospect of an extended stay is higher now than it was several weeks back. Bentley joined Leeds from St Helens last season and has played regularly under Rohan Smith.
