James Gunn confirms the GotGHolidaySpecial will be 'TV Special length' rather than a feature film, and that it'll only be available on Disney+.

James Gunn clarifies how long The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will be. Gunn's most recent projects, The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, have seen him delve into the DCEU, but now he's set to return to the MCU in a big way. Currently, the fan favorite filmmaker is working on the 2023 movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which he says will be the final installment in his colorful Marvel franchise.

Before that arrives, though, audiences will get to revisit the Guardians in a rather unique setting. Announced back in 2020, the ragtag team will star in the MCU's very first holiday special, officially titled The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Much like for Vol. 3, plot details are still a big mystery, but Gunn has confirmed the special will lead into next year's movie.

It is a TV Special on @disneyplus. It is TV Special length. #GotGHolidaySpecial https://t.co/vzIX18vloSThe MCU has expanded into television with proper shows, but The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will be the franchise's first one-off project. Though it will definitely hold connections to the movies, fans can likely also expect some sweet holiday celebrations for the Guardians.

Right now, everything is a mystery. Since the holiday special will be keeping to a typical TV special length, one has to wonder how much Gunn will be able to fit into its story. The Guardians will next be seen in this summer's Thor: Love and Thunder, which could then set up where they will be found at the start of the special. In between the holiday festivities and the new MCU characters, the Guardians holiday special is positioned to be an event fans can't miss.
