The Ibrox skipper netted twice in the 3-0 victory of St Mirren as Steven Davis got his first win as boss.

Under-fire captain James Tavernier claims he didn't see the banner that was unveiled by Rangers fans which questioned the Ibrox players.

The travelling support in Paisley vented their fury at results when the Union Bears section at St Mirren Park unveiled a banner after little more than 10 minutes of action. The Rangers ultras took aim at the players and in particular the lack of leadership in the team. The banner read: "Heartless, passionless, leaderless. Not fit to wear our colours."

But following the full-time whistle and a 3-0 victory - with Tavernier netting twice either side of a strike from Abdallah Sima - he insisted he had missed the display in the away end when he was put on the spot by Sky Sports. Asked about the banner, he said: "I didn't see it but the fans are frustrated and we can understand. It's down to us to wear the shirt with pride and give them the results they want.

"We never go out to lose a game but we know our performances haven't been the greatest. We've got full belief though, there are great characters in that dressing room and it's about us as men standing up for the badge and delivering." Pressed on questions over his captaincy which has plagued him in recent weeks during the slump in form, Tavernier went on: "I'm always going to get questioned as captain of the club but I'll try my hardest no matter what and I'll always fight for the team, my club and the players. I'll keep working hard and lead by example."
