After a decade as captain and facing personal challenges, James Vince will be stepping down from his role at Hampshire and moving to Dubai with his family.
James Vince , a key member of England's 2019 World Cup winning squad, will be stepping down as captain of Hampshire after a decade at the helm. The 33-year-old batsman will be moving to Dubai with his family following attacks on their home last year. While Vince will not be participating in the 2025 English domestic first-class County Championship, also known as the red-ball season, he will continue to play white-ball (limited-overs) cricket and lead Hampshire in the T20 Blast .
Vince, who spoke to Britain's Daily Telegraph in July, described the attacks as a case of mistaken identity, leaving his young family feeling unsafe. He stated that the decision to move was driven by the need to prioritize his family's wellbeing. Vince made his Hampshire debut in 2009 at the age of 18 and has amassed over 22,000 runs for the county. He holds the record for most runs in the Blast and has been a crucial part of Hampshire's three T20 title-winning teams. Vince has also represented England 55 times across all formats. He has been retained by the Karachi Kings for this season's T20 Pakistan Super League, a deal reportedly worth £100,000 ($196,000). This move highlights the financial pull of overseas leagues, even with the English Cricket Board's (ECB) recent rule changes aimed at protecting the domestic season.
