Five of the best new releases this week, from dance music star Jamie xx and hip hop legend LL Cool J to Angie McMahon, Ben Lee and Nilüfer Yanya.

We're here to sort the wheat from the chaff to bring you the best new releases around. From taste-making electronica to revitalising hip hop and the latest from homegrown Aussie talent, here's five records worth your time. When audiences were first introduced to In Colour, the debut solo record from British producer Jamie xx, they were served up a kaleidoscope of sounds that represented a diverse range of influences.

The album also features the return of Romy and Oliver Sim, Jamie xx's band mates from the equally impactful British group, The xx, whose beautiful vocals feature on 'Waited All Night'. Tying it all together is McMahon's dynamic voice, animating thoughtful lyrics about striving to find the positives in life's struggles with sanguine vulnerability

Light Sides underscores McMahon's artistry and comforting power: When things get dark, there's somebody with the heart and great tunes to make our collective Sisyphean struggle feel a little lighter.14 studio albums into his career, LL Cool J reminds us all why he's one of the best to touch a microphone. The FORCE is the first album in 11 years from legendary Queens rapper, LL Cool J.

Key tracks including 'Huey in the Chair', 'Murdergram Deux' and 'Saturday Night Special' recruit star collaborators in Busta Rhymes, Eminem , Rick Ross and Fat Joe respectively. 'Like I Say ' explodes with classic quiet/loud 90s grunge catharsis, and 'Method Actor' similarly simmers with alt-rock heat as Yanya depicts a thorny romance with violent imagery of kicked-in jaws and daggers drawn. "You should pull that trigger, aim it my liver / Losin' a pulse and all my problems," she sings.

These are songs that gesture to dramatic conflict but are delivered with quietly intoxicating precision and Yanya's cool-headed demeanour.
