Victorian Senator Jane Hume has told Daniel Andrews to focus on his 'own woes' after the Victorian premier slammed the RBA's latest rate hike decision.

The RBA increased interest rates by another 25 basis points to 3.85 per cent on Tuesday, the 11th rate hike in the last 12 months., Premier Andrews said he doesn’t know if the interest rate hikes were getting inflation under control – currently at 7 per cent – but he is “certain” they are “smashing families.”

“Perhaps the Victorian state government should focus on its own woes, and how it’s going to deal with its policy position to help ordinary Victorians,” she said. “One of the findings of this report is that government policies make a significant difference to the cost of living, and government can in fact do more,” she said.

“We will want to see evidence from next week’s budget that the budget is… aligned with the RBA policy so the RBA doesn’t have to do all the heavy lifting.”
