BREAKING: The January 6 committee investigating the Capitol riot is set to vote on recommending criminal referrals against former President Donald Trump to the Justice Department.
The House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot held its final meeting on Monday
Criminal referrals are largely symbolic, as only the Justice Department can decide whether to prosecute Trump and his key advisers. However, the committee was poised to send a forceful statement after 18 months conducting 1,000 interviews and collecting more than one million pieces of paper. ‘So, today, beyond our findings, we will also show that evidence we’ve gathered points to further action beyond the power of this committee, or the Congress, to help ensure accountability under law.
On Monday, the committee was also set to approve its final report, which is expected to be released later this week, Thompson said.
