Former Rugby League star Jarryd Hayne has been granted bail and has walked free from prison after winning his appeal to have his conviction overturned for raping a woman in her Newcastle home in 2018.

Picture: Nine The other ground for appeal upheld was that the judge did not properly direct the jury over how to treat allegations the woman lied.Hayne's lawyer applied for bail which was later granted around midday, with the 36-year-old set to be released from prison.
"In the current circumstances, it is unlikely that a new trial will occur before the expiry of the non-parole period and most of that period has already been served," he wrote.
