After 20 seasons as Pickerington Central's football coach, Jay Sharrett announced his retirement Dec. 8.
Sharrett served as an assistant at Pickerington from 1990-2002 under former coach Jack Johnson before the district split into two high schools and has been Central's coach since.
As head coach, Sharrett led the Tigers to a 211-42 record that included 17 league championships, eight regional titles and Division I state championships in 2017 and 2019. "If we hadn't poured everything we had into it, we'd have some regrets, but knowing we've done everything we possibly could and when you think about the coaching staff and the motivation of our players and our numbers, it was the perfect timing," Sharrett said.
