Fremantle assistant Jaymie Graham is preparing to present to North Melbourne's coaching panel on Saturday and is widely regarded as a leading candidate for the Kangaroos head coach position. Xavier Clarke, David Hale and Daniel Giansiracusa are also expected to present. Meanwhile, Collingwood recruit Lachie Neale described his move from Brisbane as an awkward but anticipated conversation with Lions football boss Danny Daly and coach Chris Fagan.

Fremantle assistant Jaymie Graham said he was excited about potentially coaching the Kangaroos ahead of his trip east. Graham is presenting to the North Melbourne coach selection panel — comprising Jennifer Watt , Todd Viney, Andrew Swallow, Darren Crocker, Nick Dowling and Steele Sidebottom — on Saturday.
“I’m heading over there; I’m in the process, which is a good opportunity for myself,” he told 10 News. Graham, who fell short in his pursuits of the Essendon and Carlton roles earlier in the year, is considered one of the most ready assistants for the step up. And according to Seven’s Tom Morris, alongside fellow contender Nathan Buckley, Graham is “widely seen as the frontrunner” in the race.
Hawthorn pair David Hale and Daniel Giansiracusa were also said to be formally presenting for the job, as was Roos assistant Xavier Clarke. Newly-minted Magpie Lachie Neale has opened up on his “weird conversation” with Lions bosses before his free agency move. The dual Brownlow medallist’s Collingwood switch had long been in the offing, but only on Friday was it officially confirmed.
But even while his Melbourne move was an open secret, he admitted his conversation with Brisbane footy boss Danny Daly and coach Chris Fagan about leaving was an awkward one to have.
“It’s a little bit uncomfortable, but I think everyone knew for a while now that it was on the cards,” Neale told Triple M. “Both of those guys have been in contact with me throughout the year, especially Danny … and Fages as well. “It wasn’t a shock to anyone, but it was a bit weird to say it to two guys who you’ve worked alongside for a long time and achieved some special things and been through some highs and lows with.
After a year spent constantly making headlines, Neale also said he wasn’t exactly looking forward to the intense Melbourne media scrutiny.
“But being a part of a powerful club like Collingwood and the amount of fans they have across Australia … everywhere we travel will be a lot of Collingwood fans.
