He called his mum before dialling 999

A woman spent a month in an induced coma after her partner pushed her off a step in a row over a mobile phone.

Paul Brookwell, prosecuting, told the court that at hospital, the mum-of-one was placed into an induced coma while she was treated on the Intensive Care Unit for a bleed on her brain. She had to have an operation on a broken eye socket, which had caused damage to her retina, and was monitored closely due to swelling on her brain.

Mr Brookwell told the court it was 18 months before the woman was able to return to work, which she struggled with mentally. She felt she sometimes lacked the patience she needed to care for her young child, but was thankful her relationship with him did not suffer.
