The former federal treasurer and current Future Fund chairman is expected to re-nominate for his position at Nine at the company’s annual meeting this year. He has been on the board since 2013 and has served as chairman since 2016.
That long-tenure and push to fill the empty board seat has also created an expectation within the media industry that Mr Costello could use the recruitment drive to find a potential successor as chairman. Recruiters told the candidates that the new Nine board member would be in the frame to become chairman when Mr Costello eventually steps down, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter.
