It’s a high-profile hire for Jefferies, made sweeter by the rarity of people moving out of Macquarie’s senior ranks to rival investment banks. In its equity capital markets team, Jefferies has appointed a new head of ECM syndicate – in a sign the Michael Stock-led outfit wants a bigger slice of the pie when the IPO market opens up again.

Mike Johnson has run institutional equities sales and distribution at home and abroad for Macquarie for a decade, and was previously working with Macquarie Asset Management.Both Meagher and Johnson report to Stock. has co-edited Street Talk since 2009, specialising in private equity, investment banking, M&A and equity capital markets stories.
