The Spurs' rookie class -- led by the inimitable Jeremy Sochan -- showed flashes of promises during its inaugural NBA foray, and looks forward to what's next
On the night of Oct. 19 of last year, Jeremy Sochan strutted onto the court at the AT&T Center for the opening tip-off of his first regular-season NBA game.Having spent the past six months scrapping and trash-talking his way through his rookie season, the self-described “cheeky” Spurs forward figures he left some sort of impression on 29 other NBA teams.
When the club re-convenes for the start of training camp in the fall, they will no longer be teenagers. He ended the season having turned in the kind of campaign likely to lead to an All-Rookie selection. The versatile 6-foot-8 forward averaged 11.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists, while unofficially leading the NBA rookie class in word per minute while on the court.
Popovich acknowledged the injury was minor enough that the club could have pushed Sochan to play down the stretch.
