The New York Jets have a new offense. And Garrett Wilson is putting in extra work watching a big name to learn it.
Wilson said he watches tape “every day” of Adams operating in the Packers’ offense, helping Green Bay put together some of the finest offensive seasons in NFL history, including 2020 and 2021 when Rodgers won back-to-back MVPs with Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett serving in the same role for Green Bay.
Rodgers has made it clear that Wilson has work to do to get on the level of Adams, his favorite target from the first 18 years of his career. But Rodgers has also admitted, repeatedly, that Wilson reminds him of Adams, who also wore No. 17. Wilson knows he has a lot to prove before he gets on the level of Adams. And he showed Friday his head is in the right place when he said that his primary goal isn’t related to putting up bigger, better numbers. It’s about finding a way to win.
“Just knowing how great he was,” Wilson said of Adams seeing how he made it work, man, because this offense is catered to a receiver. Everything looks the same until it doesn’t. And as a receiver that’s what you want, and Davante had done a great job with it. So like I said that’s every day I’m trying to take something from those years that he played with Aaron and it’s fun to watch every time I get to go back, for real.
