Australian fast bowler Jhye Richardson will undergo surgery on his dislocated shoulder, ending his Big Bash League and Sheffield Shield seasons. This setback continues a series of injuries for Richardson, who is aiming for a return next summer.

Jhye Richardson is facing another extended period away from cricket due to surgery on the shoulder he dislocated while celebrating with teammates in November. The Australian fast bowler confirmed on Sunday that his Big Bash League and Sheffield Shield seasons were over, choosing to have the operation to stabilize the joint. The procedure will sideline him for the long term, with Richardson aiming for a return next summer ahead of the home Ashes series.

This setback adds to a frustrating run for the 28-year-old, who has undergone two previous surgeries on the same right shoulder and also suffered significant hamstring and side injuries in the past two years, limiting his appearances to just three Tests. 'I've made the decision to undergo shoulder surgery to improve stability and reduce the risk of future injury,' Richardson said in a statement from WA Cricket. 'For the past few years, I have been limited by my shoulder in the field and know how increasingly important it is to be capable to back up my teammates. 'While it's a tough call, especially as it means I won't be able to finish the season with the Scorchers, this is the best option to set me up for a strong and healthy return to cricket. 'The timing of the surgery is crucial to ensure I have the best possible build up, including Shield cricket leading into next summer.' This latest injury is a blow not only to Richardson but also to Australian cricket. The right-arm quick is regarded as one of the best bowlers in his age group and would ideally be a key part of Australia's bowling attack. He was even included in Australia's squad for the Boxing Day Test and looked likely to feature against India in Sydney before Mitchell Starc recovered from a rib injury. In a particularly frustrating turn of events, Richardson's injury occurred while celebrating a wicket in his comeback game in the Sheffield Shield at the Adelaide Oval in November. After taking two wickets, he grabbed at his shoulder after celebrating the second dismissal. He left the field for 30 minutes to be assessed by medical staff before returning to bowl
