We chat with comedian and actor JimGaffigan about the task of playing multiple characters and more in Colin West’s sci-fi movie Linoleum, moving more towards dramatic roles, and his iconic moment in SuperTroopers:
Linoleum is the third feature film from writer and director Colin West, who has seized the opportunity to take strong strides into the realms of science fiction and family drama. The film has already delighted audiences at its premiere at the South by Southwest 2022 film festival, and is set to be released in select theaters on February 24th.
Jim Gaffigan: I've done kind of comedic takes of that, and there's some humor when [these two characters] interact, [but] not only are they two different people, but they're also - not to give anything away - intertwined, in a way.
Jim Gaffigan: I don't know if that was a factor. I do know that I was thrilled [with the cast]. I knew that Rhea Seehorn was going to be a great actor, and it's not surprising considering how great Better Call Saul is. She has that same obsessive nature surrounding [her work].
Jim Gaffigan: I wouldn't say that I find it easier. I think that what people might not realize is that comedians are really driven. "Successful" comedians are pretty serious people. This is not all comedians, but there's a lot of acting that goes into stand-up, and there is a questioning that is very vital for pursuing an acting character, so it does make sense that certain comedians would be good dramatic actors. They know the moments where the drama is.
