Jimmie Ward continues to use Instagram live as the avenue for his statements about the 49ers.
defensive back Jimmie Ward converted from safety to nickel this past season. That, everyone agrees on. How he got there, though, is proving contentious.At the NFL combine last week, GM John Lynch laughed that off.."We were never benching Jimmie. I think he more tried to sell him on why it was a good thing for him and our team."
Ward hopped on Instagram Live on Monday to once again give his version of events."I never refused to play nickel," Ward said. He explained that his issue with getting moved to nickel stemmed from his lack of practice at the position. Ward recounted how the Niners were supposed to draft players for that spot, and that initially Deommodore Lenoir got reps at practice there. When the team asked him to move from safety to nickel, he reportedly felt like he didn't have the time in to succeed.
"I can't get any reps but if something happens and someone goes down, you're sending me out there to sink or swim, I wasn't going to do that," Ward said."I figured it out but I wasn't going to do that."
