An almighty row within Labor over JobKeeper has revived speculation about the leadership ambitions of Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers, according to Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell. The shadow treasurer had proposed to move disallowance motions in the Senate to allow airline workers DNata and university workers to be included on the wages scheme. Mr Clennell said the proposal was first shut down by shadow cabinet due to spending concerns.

” Mr Clennell said the proposal led to a “shouting match” between Dr Chalmers and Labor’s Senate leader Penny Wong amid a meeting of the party’s expenditure review committee. The events have revived speculation of the shadow treasurer’s leadership ambitions and has some within Labor concerned he is “cosying up to the Left” in case the Eden-Monaro by-election destabilises Mr Albanese’s leadership.
