“I can’t tell you the number of Uber drivers I’ve had who are qualified engineers but it’s just too hard. They apply for 20 or 30 jobs but are seen as an unknown quantity.” “We’ve done a lot of analysis and our main finding was most young Australians aren’t really aware of what the profession is.“Engineering graduates also have some of the highest starting salaries in the country and the job security is fantastic.”Nearly one in four permanent skilled migrants worked in a job beneath their skill level, according to a 2021 report by Committee for Economic Development of Australia.

A lack of local work experience was one of the biggest barriers to migrants finding work in their field.
