Anthony Albanese and Jim Chalmers expect about 100 leaders from business, unions and civil society to join the talks at Parliament House.

will include quick-to-implement ideas that emerge from the national jobs and skills summit, set to bring together about 100 leaders from business and unions at Parliament House.

“We intend to bring together business, unions, civil society groups, other levels of government, to discuss how ... we can maximise, not just the benefit for the economy that comes with new industries, that comes with good jobs, how we make sure that Australians can fulfil those jobs of the future.”Dr Chalmers said while the summit would throw up long-term projects, he also wanted some ideas turned around quickly.

Mr Albanese ruled out tax reform as a major area of activity stemming from the talks, instead pointing to efforts to maintain historically low unemployment and push up wages for average workers. Business has called for faster turnaround times for applicants, with some put off by the slow processing periods for skilled worker applications.Finance Minister Katy Gallagher will oversee work on women’s employment issues during the summit. Employment Minister Tony Burke will co-ordinate a work stream on job security and wages, while Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil will lead talks on migration.
