Jody Singer, director of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, was “on console” in the Launch Command Center at Kennedy Space Center in Florida Nov. 16 when the Space Launch System rocket lifted the first Orion capsule on a mission to fly around the moon.
“I admit,” Singer said, “I was also talking to the SLS saying, ‘Go, baby, go!’ I have learned over my career that hardware can be humbling. I knew our team had given their all to make the Artemis 1 mission safely.” There were no women in senior executive positions then, Singer said, “so I really didn’t know what I could achieve. I have been blessed to be mentored by many of them. They helped me develop as a leader and to enable others.”
