The US President left the audience at a gun safety event in Connecticut baffled after signing off his speech with a bizarre 'God save the Queen, man'.
The phrase is better known as the United Kingdom’s national anthem during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, having been replaced by “God save the King” upon the ascendancy of her son Charles to the throne.
The White House press office was quick to cover President Biden’s tracks, telling the BBC he had been “commenting to someone in the crowd”. He used the speech to rail against gun violence in America and expressed his fury that shootings happen “every damn day” in the United States. President Biden also called for greater gun control measures, such as implementing universal background checks and banning assault rifles. "Whether you're Democrat or Republic we all want families to be safe.
“We all want to drop them off at a house of worship, a mall, a movie, a school door without worrying that's the last time we're ever see them."
