The most legendary player in New York Jets history isn't making things easier for Zach Wilson or Robert Saleh.
“I’ve seen enough of Zach Wilson, all right?” Namath said Monday on ESPN Radio’s “The Michael Kay Show, a day after the Jets’ 15-10 loss to the Patriots. “I’m saying I don’t believe in him. I don’t believe he has a future as a good player and I think they made a wrong choice when they drafted him. I feel that way. He has some athletic ability, but you gotta have something up here that’s going on whenever you’re studying, reading, playing out there.
“You sit down?” Namath said. “You sit down on a play? You go right down? What happened? I thought you’re trying to win and make plays. You quit on a play? What is going on? It’s disgusting.” Last year, the Jets sat Wilson because they wanted to give him the time to reset and then he was forced back into action because Mike White suffered a rib injury. He wasn’t supposed to play this year either, until Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles on the fourth play of the season.
“These guys aren’t picking the right players,” he said. “They aren’t doing a good job of coaching. It’s evident. I mean, you’ve got to look and see. If you have an eye for football at all you see things are haywire. It’s too crazy. They need to fix it and that’s getting rid of a lot of people and bringing new ones in.”
