Joe Swash - ‘We're addicted to having babies - when they turn 3 Stacey wants another' realjoeswash
They already have six gorgeous children scampering around Pickle Cottage, and their youngest is just four months old – but Joe Swash and Stacey Solomon are still talking about adding to their family. Beautiful baby Belle arrived in February as a sister for Harry, 16, Zachary, 15, Leighton, 11, Rex, four, and toddler Rose, who was born in October 2021.
Joe wouldn’t have it any other way. While they both have busy, successful TV careers to manage, they are also aware that these early years are precious. This leaves Stacey with no choice but to dish out the tough love herself. Sheepishly, Joe admits, “Stacey doesn’t like it but she has to be the bad one. Someone’s got to do it. She’s forever telling me, ‘I’m always the bad one!’ But there’s always got to be a bad one and I can’t do it!”
Fostering is close to Joe’s heart because his mother, Kiffy, is a foster parent. Her work brought two cherished foster siblings into his life and changed his family for the better. Joe is so passionate about his mum’s vocation that he has filmed a sensitive but hard-hitting documentary delving into Britain’s dismal care system, called Joe Swash: Teens In Care.
“It was amazing for the little one to be adopted, but for us it was devastating because we loved her,” says Joe. “She was like our little sister. Then Daniel joined our family when he was seven, and he’s now 19 and at university.” Kiffy’s devotion to her charges has paid off and enriched everyone’s lives. Thanks to her, Joe has seen how brilliant ourJoe explains, “When Daniel came to us, he didn’t get the fundamental things. He couldn’t tie his shoe laces, eat properly with a knife and fork, or communicate. We’ve seen him blossom. He’s funny, he’s witty, he’s clever – we’re so proud of him.”
Watching Joe on TV usually guarantees an hour of light entertainment and fun. This documentary, however, shows us a more serious Joe, who is determined to shine a light on a broken system and shame the government into changing its ways. We see him travel After meeting children who have survived terrible abuse, Joe was upset by the government’s response. “It’s like an iceberg. They are just playing at the top and there’s so much more required at the bottom, so many more kids that need help,” he says.
