Belfield was wanted in connection with a fatal attack on Thomas Campbell in Tameside
A man wanted for murder was arrested today at Manchester Airport when he arrived on a flight from South America.
Mr Campbell, 38-year-old was robbed and 'tortured to death' in his own home in Mossley, Tameside, after being ambushed by three men. Three people, including Thomas's ex-wife Coleen Campbell, were jailed last year for their roles in Thomas's death.In a statement Greater Manchester Police said: "John Belfield of no fixed abode has been charged with murder, conspiracy to murder, manslaughter, conspiracy to rob and conspiracy to supply class A drugs.
"Despite the best efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene and a murder investigation was quickly launched. Three individuals have already been sentenced for their role in Thomas Campbell’s death. Detective Chief Inspector Liz Hopkinson of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “I would like to thank our colleagues in the National Crime Agency and Suriname law enforcement, alongside our officers in GMPs Special Operations and Force Critical Wanted Unit, for their tireless pursuit to find Belfield.
