After the transfer tussle back in 2018 McGinn has went on to become Villa captain and a key man for Scotland.
Steve Bruce has lifted the lid on how Aston Villa managed to beat Celtic to the signing of John McGinn.
Villa were also scrambling to meet the Easter Road asking price - but managed to stall a move to Celtic by inviting his dad and grandfather for a round of golf at The Belfry. That allowed the club time to pull together the cash for McGinn - who in the years since has went on the become a key player for the club and Scotland.
"We didn't have the £2million at the time and he was going to Celtic, but I had heard that his dad and grandad played golf. I thought 'I am going to try and get his dad down to give us a little bit of stalling time'.
