Police charged Emma Walters after searching her house on Wednesday and seizing a mobile phone.
The estranged wife of John Setka has been charged with incitement to commit conspiracy to murder the Victorian construction union boss.
Setka, who is the Victorian secretary of the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union, and Walters have been involved in a long-running, vitriolic legal battle involving allegations that Setka committed acts of domestic violence and repeated breaches of intervention orders.Walters moved interstate with the couple’s two children because she feared for her safety but has recently returned.
In her Supreme Court writ, Walters alleged she was the victim of “numerous” family violence incidents involving Setka and that four separate intervention orders had been in place to protect her. In a statement, Victoria Police said a woman was charged “after she allegedly attempted to acquire a firearm and made threats to kill a man earlier this month”.
