The party's Westminster leader blamed the SNP's poor general election performance in part on a “breakdown in trust” between voters and the party.
The SNP can “realign” under John Swinney ’s leadership so it is ready to take on Labour at the next Holyrood election, Stephen Flynn has said.
He was speaking as Swinney's first SNP conference since returning as leader kicks off with an internal session examining what went wrong in the July election. He complained that at a time of a cost-of-living crisis, the public had seen the Scottish Government spending time “arguing with the UK Government” over “bottle banks” for the scrapped deposit return scheme.
“I don’t think it’s fair or reasonable for me to put a timescale upon that, because it’s for the public to determine what they want and when they want it,” he said. He likened that to the situation under the Tories when David Cameron was prime minister and George Osborne his chancellor.
