As many major studios pull out of San Diego Comic-Con, the John Wick prequel show The Continental will still be featuring at the convention.

Though multiple major studios will not be presenting at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, John Wick's prequel series The Continental will still be making an appearance. The miniseries follows a young Winston Scott as he begins to lay the groundwork for his own miniature empire in his famous hotel. It will be a three-part series set in New York City in the 1970s that will feature both new and familiar characters alike, including Winston, Charon, and the proprietor of The Continental.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Since the show is set to premiere in September, it will not be skipping San Diego Comic-Con, according to The Wrap. That is somewhat surprising given that major studios, including Netflix, Disney, and HBO are skipping Comic-Con. They aren't alone either, as Marvel Studios already announced that it will be missing its Comic-Con Hall H presentation.

Why So Many Other Shows & Movies Are Skipping Comic-Con San Diego Comic-Con has been a central part of media marketing for years, but 2023 will see a serious reduction in big-name panels – and there's a good reason for it. The actor's guild SAG-AFTRA is currently considering a strike should its negotiations not end by June 30.

Actors are a central part of marketing seeing as they are the faces of each brand. Recently, DC Studios attempted to obscure the lead actor for The Flash after Ezra Miller's criminal allegations presented a serious challenge to its marketing efforts. Miller has made only one public appearance to promote the film but has otherwise been avoiding the spotlight.

Another issue for studios wishing to present at Comic-Con is that many shows are currently on hold thanks to the Writer's Guild of America strike. The writers have been striking since May 2, and it could very well continue through Comic-Con. Without new shows to present or the ability to substitute writers for their actors during panels, many studios will have little to show off for San Diego Comic-Con.
