A self-portrait created by Hollywood star Johnny Depp during the actor's"challenging period" is up for sale.
Titled"Five," the work, which is being sold through Castle Fine Art, sees the face of Depp set on a gray background with flecks of red on his face. The actor began working on the piece in 2021 while he endured a brutal legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, according to a report. "It was created at a time that was, let's say, a bit dark, a bit confusing," Depp said in a video promoting the piece."Essentially, I just wrote 'five' on there because I was just about to enter the fifth year of the madness."
"I think this is the most personal piece he’s ever done," Ian Weatherby-Blythe, managing director of Castle Fine Art, said."He revisited the eyes over and over and over again. And when you look at the piece, you know, it's a beautiful portrait. But, when you look at the eyes, there’s something very meaningful behind the eyes, there’s something, you know, quite sad," he added.
Signed copies of"Five" went live for sale on July 20 for $1,950, with $200 from each sale being donated to Mental Health America.
