Ben Donaldson’s 25 point-haul in Australia’s Rugby World Cup opener was the highest tally for the Wallabies since Bernard Foley tore England apart in 2015.
, Wallabies coach Eddie Jones was asked what attributes he liked about the team’s new fullback, who had just scored two tries in a 25-point haul.
– and Jones seemed a little surprised following a coming-of-age performance in hot conditions in the French capital.He has consistently backed Donaldson, even after the NSW representative’s middling Super Rugby season.“I think he’s a really, really good rugby player.”After scoring more than 70 per cent of Australia’s points at Stade de France in their must-win World Cup opener, Jones lauded Donaldson’s goal-kicking and decision-making under pressure.
“I didn’t have the best year in Super [Rugby] but to get the backing from him [Jones] … just means the world for me and it meant I worked even harder to put the faith back in him. I’m just glad we put a performance out there for him. Nailing six from seven attempts at goal on the weekend has strengthened Donaldson’s case to keep his spot for next Sunday’s fixture with Fiji.
