If I was offered a seat at the table, I’d have several recommendations
The curlers, who won one Olympic medal this year in Beijing, a bronze and were shutout in both men’s and women’s four-player events four years ago in Korea, are now campaigning for change in the formats of the Brier and Scotties going? The players are not only calling for change, they’re asking for a voice at the table. The curlers think it’s the curling that made the Brier and Scotties special events.
There was special interest in this year’s just-completed Brier in Lethbridge because Colton Flasch and his team out of Saskatoon made the final four wearing the provincial crest of Saskatchewan on their backs in the ridiculous two-pool field of 18 teams. There’s always a built-in rivalry between Alberta and Manitoba. The latter, when it comes to the Brier, has not really existed in a while.
There are so many free spaces on the bingo card that TSN has a tough time picking a game to show from each draw during the round robin. I’d also suggest Curling Canada open up the residency rules even more to allow more quality curlers to compete for each province. I mean, they’re getting pretty burry anyway. Ontario skip Rachel Homan now lives in Beaumont, Alberta, with her husband and two kids and Manitoba skip Jennifer Jones now lives in Ontario with her husband, Brent Laing, and their two kids.
