“If that’s how they want to go about it and win a cricket game or what have you, then so be it,” Bairstow’s quote began. Paine was alluding to vision from a 2014 County Championship match where he committed a contentious stumping on Nottinghamshire’s Samit Patel. “You can’t have your cake and eat it. You’ve done it yourself in the past, when it happens to you, you’ve got to cop it on the chin.”
