José Ramírez, whether he's in the middle of a veteran lineup or one dominated by rookies, continues to produce with his rare mix of talent.
At the moment there are a lot of players who are no longer with Ramírez. Amed Rosario, who hit in front of Ramírez in the No. 2 spot, was traded to Dodgers. Josh Bell, who hit behind him in the fourth or fifth spot, was traded to the Marlins.
“In the past he’s had good protection around him,” said Rodriguez. “Now we have younger players and the protection is not the same. But he continues to be productive.” “I spent all offseason working on my power,” said Ramírez, with bullpen catcher Armando Camacaro serving as interpreter. “That was my main goal.”“You guys watch the games every day and see how they pitch me,” said Ramírez. “It’s more difficult right now the way they pitch to me because of the younger lineup.”
“I think if you only hit from one side of the plate, it’s easier to be more consistent,” said Ramírez. “When you switch back and forth, it’s hard to be consistent. You can be in a slump hitting left-handed, while you’re hitting better right-handed.”
