Michael Guillen, the first television correspondent to go down and report on the Titanic, has expressed his grief for those who died in the Titan submersible, recalling his own frightening experience in the depths of the North Atlantic.
Mr Guillen made the expedition to the Titanic wreckage despite having a fear of water and went down for two and a half hours, however he thought it would be the end of him after a collision with the ship.

The journalist said in the end he was relieved the victims who were later confirmed to be presumed dead by OceanGate had likely died quickly in a “catastrophic implosion”.
“ is a huge consolation because these folks did not die a lingering death as we all worried that they might be suffering for days. It was instantaneous, they didn’t even know what hit them so thank God for that.”
