'The View' co-hosts Joy Behar and Abby Huntsman sparred over climate change on Tuesday's show after Greta Thunberg's impassioned plea to world leaders made headlines.
at the United Nations Climate Action Summit, chastising world leaders for promoting “fairytales of eternal economic growth.” applauded Thunberg for her efforts, and slammed those who deny that climate change is a threat to humanity. “Some of these people who are denying climate change, they’re gonna be dead. They don’t care, apparently, about their grandchildren. The only care about their 401k’s,” said Behar. “It’s disgusting.” disagreed with Behar.
Huntsman questioned whether Thunberg’s tactic of shaming people is the right way to get world leaders to take action, saying, “This is the problem I see with the conversation with climate change: Do you motivate people by saying ‘we gotta better the environment’ or do you motivate them by saying ‘people are gonna die in 10 years anyway?’”
“Guilt tripping might work,” said Behar. “Do you understand how that sounds to people? When you want to have a rational conversation about climate change and you say, ‘You know what? You’re grandparents? You don’t love your grandchildren enough.’ I don’t think that’s productive,” said Huntsman. Behar didn’t back down, capping the conversation with, “I stand by it,” which was met with applause from the studio audience.I stand with
