Lawyers for Jude Wijesinghe, who allegedly stabbed his co-worker Tshewang Choden to death at the National Zoo and Aquarium, asked to delay court proceedings, but that request was rejected by the court.

Jude Wijesinghe, 29, was charged at a bedside hearing after he allegedly stabbed Tshewang Choden to death in the zoo's commercial kitchen, where they both worked. The man said the door was locked so he ran to get other staff, but he said when they returned the door was open and Mr Wijesinghe was inside, allegedly holding a knife which appeared to have blood on it.The court materials also say a search of Mr Wijesinghe's home uncovered four hand-written letters laid out on the kitchen bench, and pellets labelled as rat poison.He was taken to the Canberra Hospital in police custody in the immediate aftermath of the alleged stabbing.
That was opposed by the Director of Public Prosecutions Victoria Engel, in what was her first appearance in the ACT courts since taking up the job in May.
