The attempted coverup of a groping incident in an airplane by an assistant fencing team coach was the basis of the suit.
WILLIAMSPORT – A federal judge has taken Penn State to task for how it dealt with a sexual misconduct complaint given its experience with the Jerry Sandusky case.
“That said, the particularities of the present case make it meaningfully different than its tragic, shameful precedent involving Jerry Sandusky. Later on in the flight, Abashidze allegedly thrust his hand between Oldham’s legs and sexually assaulted her without her consent. Missing from the report on Penn State’s investigation was a mention that head coach Wieslaw R. Glon, after being told of the incident, failed to report it to the university, Oldham claimed.Glon and Oldham had met in February 2018 at a fencing competition at Duke University and she provided him with the details of the sexual assault and a written summary of it.
She suggested he had a duty to report the assault to Penn State, but he replied that he did not believe Abashidze was a “danger” to the team. An affirmative action office investigation began and in April 2019, Oldham submitted a written Title IX complaint against Glon based on his failure to report her assault. She claims she never received a response.
