The controversial influencer had appeared in court to challenge his arrest on charges of rape, human trafficking and organized crime — with his lawyer arguing there was insufficient evidence to justify his time in custody.
A judge had previously rejected the 36-year-old's appeal against a decision to extend his detention from 24 hours to 30 days, amid fears he could evade investigation by settling in a country that doesn't have an extradition agreement with Romania. Posts protesting his innocence have continued to appear on his official Twitter account, which was reinstated soon after Elon Musk bought the social network. He was banned from other platforms over fears that his content is misogynistic. A tweet on Wednesday read:
Tate has even claimed that he has been attacked by "The Matrix" — and he appeared to attract support from Logan Paul who tweeted: "The Matrix is real. Pray you never become its target.""You are The Matrix. You are an agent. But The Matrix is cracking. And now you will pay the price."
