Julia Morris, host of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, sheds light on the pressures and realities of being a successful entertainer in a candid Instagram video.
On an August morning last year, hours after attending the 64th TV Week Logie Awards, Julia Morris, in pyjamas and a dressing gown, sat in her car and recorded a video for Instagram. She started talking about her exhaustion, her dedication to working and her gratitude – but, strikingly, she wanted to dispel perceptions she finds the red carpet , and Logie's build-up, easy-going fun. I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! host Julia Morris says of the video, “I think we need some of that truth.
” She adds, “I think I’m one of the more authentic people online but, this past year, I wanted to speak a little bit more like how I speak to my friends. I wanted to clear up that it’s easy. Just because I make it look easy doesn’t mean it’s easy. The mask, it’s definitely part of the gift. We don’t really hear that many great A-list stars being that honest. Not really,” she adds, raising her eyebrows as she says “A-list”, and giving a cheeky smile. Recalling the car video – which also covered rising above self-doubt and sometimes waking with such anger, her first thought is, “who am I going to kill today?” Morris says she began planning her career only in the past 10 years. “I didn’t know you had to do that. I just thought, if you’re working, you’re winning.” Morris answers any question. “That’s St Michael the Archangel, slayer of all evil,” she says, pulling up a sleeve to explain a just-visible tattoo. “I got St Michael not long after my dad died.” Other tattoos include drawings by daughters, Ruby, 18 and Sophie, 16, including an octopus, paw prints, love hearts and a snail, frog and snake in top hats. “It was the baby who challenged me,” Morris says
