Kooyong Greens candidate and human rights lawyer Julian Burnside QC has been ‘shamed’ into resigning from an exclusive men-only club in Melbourne, Sky News co-host Rita Panahi says. Mr Burnside told on Sky News on Saturday that he has been a member of The Melbourne Savage Club for 40 years.
Former Queensland premier Campbell Newman says Mr Burnside is an example of a person who ‘thinks they know about politics’. Mr Newman says he hopes the Greens candidate realises politics is a profession to 'train for, practice and be good at'. Mr Burnside announced earlier this month he would run as a Greens candidate against Treasurer Josh Frydenberg in May’s election.
