Housing Minister Julie Collins has taken aim at the Liberal party for blocking the housing bill that would help address the need created by migration.
“They were very quiet about housing when they were in government and they are now blocking the Housing Australia Future bill in the Senate, the bill that will provide 30,000 additional social and affordable rental homes,” Ms Collins said.
“You say we’re not doing enough when it to migration, the former Leader of the Opposition said we are doing too little too late, the numbers would be higher under you and … you are trying to block the housing we are trying to provide. “After a decade of little action, we are trying to turn this around … we continue to invest in housing we’ve got homes on the ground today that you don’t support.
“If you’re serious about what’s going on when it comes to housing, if you’re serious about those Australians doing it tough you would support the bill in the Senate.”

Greens accuses Labor of ‘killing the debate’ on its ‘deeply flawed’ housing billLabor was “killing the debate” on the Housing Australia Future Fund bill, which is deeply flawed and will see the housing crisis get worse, according to Greens MP Max Chandler-Mather. Mr Chandler-Mather's remarks come after Labor’s centrepiece housing policy was blocked by the Greens and Coalition. “First things to say is there was no block – Labor tried to gag debate on the housing bill after 45 minutes of discussion and forced it on for a vote before negotiations had finished,” he told Sky News Australia. “Our point is that in the middle of the worst housing crisis in generations, we should also be guaranteeing public money to be spent on public and affordable housing. “It is distressing that I saw some people online from the Labor Party talking about blocking, and that’s an irresponsible way to frame what they actually were doing.”
